Crochet Poppies

Crochet Poppies for Remembrance - The big yarn installation!

November 10, 2014

We did it again!  Thanks to amazing help of all the beautiful ladies that meet every month AND to the generous contributions from people from all over the uk who sent in their Remembrance Poppies the display looks fabulous.

As with the Bath in Fashion crochet roses project earlier this year, we met on the first wednesday of every month to get our hooks out and busy ourselves with making as many crochet remembrance poppies as we could manage, knowing that the more we had the more stunning it would be.

I had to enlist the help of my brilliant mum the night before the poppies were to be installed because we had so many!  What a great problem to have!

The response has been wonderful.  People are really appreciating both the sentiment and the amount of work that has gone into this project.

By some incredible good fortune and with the help of Ann Cullis from Bath Council - we managed to get permission to wrap some poppies around 4 of the colonnades outside the Bath Abbey.  I felt it was important that the crochet poppies did not impose too strongly and that they were in keeping with and respected the nature of Remembrance Day.  Bath council also donated money to the Royal British Legion in support of this project.

And lastly with the help of my friend and fellow crochet queen Rosie Wilkes we created a very special memorial sash for the Chairman of the Council (Martin Veal) which will be added to as the 5 year commemoration unfolds.  Each poppy was crocheted using fine cotton and includes white poppies together with the traditional red.
